British Tourist Alleges Groping Incident Near Bondi Beach; Man Arrested
A woman reported being sexually touched from behind by a cyclist during an early morning run, leading to an arrest.
A British tourist has reported being sexually touched from behind by a man on a bicycle while she was jogging near Sydney's Bondi Beach. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to Jenna Dollard, 33.
Dollard stated in a social media video that she was running along Bondi Road when she felt the cyclist grab her. She described the experience as a violation and a frightening moment. She also shared footage that she had recorded of the alleged perpetrator, in which the man can be seen denying the claims while riding away on his bicycle.
Following an investigation, New South Wales Police arrested a 51-year-old man at a property in Tempe, a suburb in Sydney's inner west, on Friday afternoon. He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with sexually touching another person without consent. The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
Dollard expressed concerns about women's safety following the alleged incident. She indicated that she would continue her morning exercise routine but opt for a gym in Bondi over outdoor running. She also thanked individuals at Tinpin Bakery who assisted her after the event.
Police are appealing for anyone with further information or mobile phone footage related to the incident to contact Bondi Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
