British Rapper Yung Filly to Face Rape Retrial in Australia
A jury failed to reach a verdict on three rape charges against the artist, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, leading to a new trial set for June.
British rapper Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is scheduled to face a rape retrial in Australia beginning June 15, following a jury's inability to reach a verdict in an earlier trial. The retrial is expected to last eight days.
In July, a jury acquitted the 31-year-old of three counts of rape, one of assault, and one of strangulation. However, the jury was undecided on three additional rape charges, which Barrientos denies. He was found guilty of two assault charges during the same trial.
A fan, who was 20 at the time of the alleged incident, claims that Barrientos repeatedly raped and assaulted her in his Perth hotel room after a concert in 2024. The court previously heard that the initial encounter with the woman was consensual before she alleged the situation turned violent and he refused to stop.
Barrientos, who is from Colombia and was raised in the UK, is known for his involvement with the YouTube collective Beta Squad. He has also appeared on Channel 4's celebrity version of Bake Off and presented shows for BBC Three.
Perth's District Court confirmed the June retrial date on Friday. Barrientos was granted permission to leave Australia as part of his bail conditions and is understood to have returned to the UK. Sentencing for the two assault charges for which he was found guilty in July will occur after the conclusion of the retrial.
