A British nurse, Natalie Green, has spoken out about the viral holiday romance that left her feeling "hurt, angry and shattered into a thousand pieces." Green was awaiting the return of her fiancé of eight years, Liam McAuley, 41, from a trip to Australia to visit his family.
Green last saw McAuley when she dropped him at the airport three weeks prior to discovering the affair. They maintained daily contact, during which he reportedly told her about his trip, including a nine-day cruise in the Whitsundays with his mother. Green was shocked when she saw videos posted by an Australian woman, identified as Sammi, 44, who claimed to have fallen in love with McAuley during a whirlwind cruise romance.
Sammi, a Sydney business owner, had reportedly sworn off dating for 14 years following her son Jett's diagnosis with aggressive brain cancer. She met McAuley on a cruise ship, and she was smitten, dubbing him "Mr UK." Sammi claimed McAuley cancelled his flight home to spend an additional week with her after the cruise docked. However, unbeknownst to Sammi, McAuley was in a long-term relationship with Green and had told her he was staying longer for a job in the mines.
Sammi's videos about her burgeoning relationship began to gain traction online, with viewers following their story. Green and her sister, Aimee, were sent a link to a video montage of McAuley and Sammi in affectionate. "My sister is absolutely shattered into a thousand pieces, her heart is completely ripped out to see this," Aimee stated. She added that while she had never fully approved of McAuley, her sister, described as "salt of the earth," is kind-hearted and pure.
The sisters began commenting on Sammi's videos, warning her about McAuley's existing engagement. Upon reading the comments, Sammi confronted McAuley, who initially denied the allegations before admitting they were true. Sammi asked him to leave, and he reportedly departed for the train station, telling her he had never loved anyone as much as he loved her. Sammi expressed that while her heart wanted the relationship to work, her mind knew it could not, and she felt humiliated by the online fallout.
McAuley, now back in the UK, told the Daily Mail that he handled the situation poorly but believes he and Sammi can still reconcile. He expressed remorse for hurting Green, stating that in his mind, their relationship had been over for some time, but criticized the portrayal of the events by Green's family and friends as vindictive. He acknowledged that Sammi changed his perspective on happiness and that he regrets ruining it.
Sammi has since posted a tearful message stating the relationship is over, apologizing to Green and describing McAuley's actions as a "bad thing" but not indicative of him being a "bad person." She also addressed criticism she has received, noting her original intention in starting her page was to inspire women facing difficulties.
Green has also taken to TikTok, posting a selfie and asserting her intention to move forward. "Life goes on," she wrote. "Have I been hurt, cheated and lied to? Yes. I've cried, I've raged, I've hit the bottom. But will I let this get the better of me? Absolutely not. One day at a time but I have got this."
