British Mother Dies in Bahamas While Saving Sons

Leanne Gregory, 36, of Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, died on Tuesday after her two sons were swept out to sea by a riptide while the family was on holiday in the Bahamas. Her husband, Nathan Gregory, recounted the incident, stating that the family had arrived on the island of Bimini and the boys were snorkeling in shallow water when they got into difficulty.

Nathan Gregory said both he and his wife entered the water in an attempt to save their sons, but the current was too strong. While the children were rescued, Leanne Gregory could not be saved. The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that officers received a report of a woman found unresponsive at the North Bimini Ferry Dock. She was taken to a local clinic where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy is expected, and foul play is not suspected.

Nathan Gregory described his wife as a "hero" and the "purest of people, the most generous kind and beautiful person who ever walked the earth." He stated that they had known each other since childhood and had been together since they were 14, planning to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in December. He expressed that their relationship was "perfect" and that she was the "foundation of our entire family."

The family has received support from Royal Caribbean and Virgin Airlines for their journey home. A crowdfunding page has been established to support the family and has raised nearly £9,000. Tributes have poured in from the local community, with Stapleford Fire Station posting that they were "deeply saddened" by the loss. A spokesperson for the Foreign Office confirmed they are in contact with local authorities and providing support to the family.
