British police are investigating eight men suspected of drugging their wives and partners to be sexually assaulted by others, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA). These investigations are part of a broader inquiry into 270 individuals worldwide connected to a major online abuse forum.

An international operation aimed at uncovering networks coordinating drug-facilitated rapes has led to eight arrests and the safeguarding of eight victims in the UK. Investigators believe numerous other forums exist where men secretly sedate their partners, often with drugs or alcohol, before they are sexually exploited and the attacks are recorded and shared online.

The NCA prepared 15 intelligence reports on abuse in Britain following a tip from German journalists. The agency has identified "organized networks" of offenders with links both online and offline. Overseas, an additional ten men have been arrested in connection with these investigations.

In many of these cases, victims have been subjected to abuse for years while sedated and may not realize they have been targeted until contacted by law enforcement. Nigel Leary, Deputy Director of the NCA, stated that the scale of the identified abuse is deeply concerning. "Drug facilitated sexual assault is no longer isolated behaviour, but increasingly organised, conducted via coordinated networks and enabled by digital platforms, requiring a more sophisticated operational response," Leary said.

He added, "We and our law enforcement partners are clear in our message to anyone involved in this horrendous offending: if you drug, rape, facilitate rape, abuse, record abuse or coordinate these crimes online, we will identify you and your networks and bring you to justice."

This situation echoes the case of Dominique Pelicot, who was jailed for 20 years in France in 2024 for drugging and raping his then-wife, Gisèle, and allowing dozens of men to abuse her over nearly a decade. Gisele Pelicot, 73, waived her right to anonymity to speak about her experience.

In a separate case, 13 men are facing trial in September in connection with the drug-facilitated sexual abuse of a woman in Greater Manchester, a case reportedly led by her husband. The NCA's announcement follows the discovery of similar drug rape rings in other parts of the UK, where some women have allegedly been assaulted for decades.

Discussions found on some of the uncovered forums include details about sedatives, types of sexual acts, and methods to evade detection. Siobhan Blake, National CPS lead for Rape and Serious Sexual Offences, described the abuse as among the most horrifying she has encountered, noting the ultimate breach of trust involved when victims are subjected to such offenses in their own homes. "This offending thrives in secrecy online and behind closed doors. It is the job of the criminal justice system to bring it out into the open to deliver for victims and survivors," Blake stated.
