British Man Hospitalized in Spain After Seizure Linked to Violent Mugging

A British man is in critical condition in Spain after suffering a seizure that caused him to hit his head during a family holiday. Paul Grant, 43, had developed seizures earlier this year following a violent mugging, and the trip to Lanzarote was intended to help him recover from the trauma.

On the first night of the holiday, Grant's mother found him covered in blood after he experienced a seizure in their hotel room and struck his head against a wall. He was initially taken to a local hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma due to liver and kidney failure.

Grant was subsequently airlifted to a hospital on Gran Canaria for intensive care. Doctors performed emergency surgery to relieve severe pressure on his brain, which involved removing the right side of his skull. His sister, Kimberly Sharp, stated that he is not yet out of danger, as a portion of his brain has sustained severe damage.

"He just wanted to make some nice family memories and have a good time," Sharp said. "A couple of months ago he got beaten up in Newcastle and had a seizure. He was jumped for his wallet and his phone, he was put into hospital and hasn't been the same since."

Grant remains heavily sedated but is reportedly able to hear his family, who have incurred significant costs for flights and accommodation to be at his bedside. Sharp has established a GoFundMe page, which has raised over £5,000 to assist with expenses.
