British Farmer Smashes Own World Record with Massive Pumpkin

Ian Paton, a 65-year-old plant nursery owner from the UK, has once again claimed the title for the world's heaviest pumpkin, setting a new Guinness World Record with a colossal gourd weighing 2,856.8 pounds. The monumental vegetable, which has a circumference exceeding 20 feet, was officially weighed at the Wargrave Nursery Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off in Berkshire, England, on October 3.

Gerald Short, a certified giant vegetable judge at the weigh-off, described the pumpkin as the most massive specimen to have ever existed in the history of fruiting plants. Paton, who named his record-breaking pumpkin "Bagheera" after the panther from "The Jungle Book," achieved this feat under the supervision of a Guinness World Records adjudicator.

This achievement marks an improvement on Paton's previous record, set in the prior year with his twin brother Stuart. Together, they grew a pumpkin that weighed 2,819 pounds and 4 ounces, earning them their first Guinness World Record. This year, however, Paton competed solo for the first time after growing pumpkins with his brother for over five decades.

Paton described the cultivation process as "bloody hard work," dedicating six hours daily to watering the pumpkin with 130 gallons of water, equivalent to three full bathtubs. He humorously noted that his dedication meant he "didn't see a lot of my wife."

The record-breaking pumpkin is currently on display at Sunnyfields Farm in Southampton and is expected to remain there until the end of the month before being fed to cows. A video shared by Paton shows him celebrating the new record by kissing his pumpkin.

Looking ahead, Paton expressed his ambition to grow a 3,000-pound pumpkin, stating it is "what I've got in my head."

Guinness World Records shared Paton's accomplishment on their Instagram page, prompting various reactions from users. Some commenters marveled at the pumpkin's size, comparing it to small cars, while others made humorous allusions to fairy tales and Halloween decorations.
