British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has reportedly been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the agency's inmate registry. Yiannopoulos, 41, a former editor for Breitbart News and an employee of Kanye West, appears to be held in Louisiana.
Neither ICE nor Yiannopoulos have officially commented on the circumstances surrounding his apparent detention, the details of which remain unclear. His name and British nationality appear in a search of ICE detainees nationwide.
Yiannopoulos, who resides and works in the U.S., was an early supporter of former President Donald Trump, headlining a "Gays for Trump" event during the 2016 Republican National Convention and has since backed Trump's immigration policies. He has also expressed support for ICE agents.
Born in Kent, England, Yiannopoulos has faced criticism for his controversial statements on various groups, including transgender people, Muslims, Black Lives Matter, feminists, and gay individuals, despite identifying as gay himself. He now describes himself as "ex-gay."
His past writings include columns with titles such as "Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy" and "Would You Rather Your Child Had Feminism or Cancer?" He has been described by critics as a purveyor of hate speech, while he has referred to himself as the "most fabulous supervillain on the internet."
