British Businessman and Two Friends Die in Swiss Alps Plane Crash
Owain Davies, an engineering boss and experienced pilot, was among three Britons killed when their small aircraft crashed in the Valais region.
A millionaire British businessman, identified as engineering boss Owain Davies, 55, died alongside two friends in a plane crash in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday.
The Cirrus SR22T aircraft crashed near the town of Leukerbad in the southern canton of Valais. Davies, described as an 'unstoppable force' and 'a very good friend' by his company Amcanu, was a passenger at the time of the accident. He was known to be an experienced pilot and had a passion for aviation.
Amcanu, a company founded by Davies's father in 1975, stated that he was a mentor and a respected leader who was also a husband, father, and grandfather. The company also noted Davies's pride in his Welsh heritage and his role as a trustee for the Wales Air Ambulance Charity since 2017.
Dr. Kyle Jacques, chair of trustees for the Wales Air Ambulance Charity, commented that Davies made a significant contribution to the organization and will be greatly missed. Davies's son, Aron, described his father as driven and determined.
The plane had taken off from Sion airport in the Rhône Valley and crashed into a mountain slope approximately 10 minutes later. Emergency services responded to the scene, but the cause of the crash remains unknown.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Swiss Transportation Safety Board, Valais Police, and the Office of the Attorney General. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is providing support to the families of the two British nationals who died in the crash.
