The British Army is set to receive a significant boost in its combat readiness with a new £2 billion investment in an artificial intelligence-powered training system. This initiative aims to prepare soldiers for the complexities of modern warfare by utilizing AI, advanced analytics, and virtual environments to replicate rapidly evolving battlefields.
The new system will enable soldiers to train anytime and anywhere, incorporating simulation, live systems, and analytics. The AI component will be used to mimic the intricacies of contemporary combat, identify patterns, monitor performance, and aid in decision-making processes. This development is expected to create approximately 270 jobs in Wiltshire and support a total of 420 jobs across the United Kingdom.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated that the investment aligns with its objective to increase the Armed Forces' readiness and accelerate transformation. As part of the package, 100 apprenticeships will be established in partnership with Wiltshire College and the University of Staffordshire, covering disciplines such as data, modeling, and project management.
This announcement follows Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's recent declaration of a £15 billion increase in military spending.
