British Aristocracy Divided Over Prince Andrew's Social Rehabilitation
An influential group of 'Turnip toffs' in North Norfolk are reportedly advocating for the social reintegration of Prince Andrew following his arrest earlier this year.
A faction within the British aristocracy, referred to as 'Turnip toffs,' is reportedly working to bring Prince Andrew back into social circles following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The sentiment among some influential figures is that the repercussions for the Duke of York have gone too far.
Prince Andrew was pictured leaving Aylsham police station in February following an 11-hour custody period. The incident has led to his increased social isolation. However, a source suggests that prominent figures in North Norfolk believe it is time for him to be welcomed back, at least to some degree.
Leading this apparent reconciliation effort are the Earl and Countess of Leicester, whose Holkham estate is a significant landholding in Norfolk. The couple have reportedly hosted Prince Andrew for dinner. The Earl of Leicester, a former Scots Guards officer, has a long-standing association with the Royal Family, as did the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was a frequent visitor to Holkham.
While the Earl declined to comment, a friend indicated that any gathering would likely be informal, described as a "kitchen supper." It is anticipated that other prominent families in the North Norfolk coastal area, including the Buxtons, Barclays, and Buscalls, may follow the Earl and Countess's lead.
This social maneuvering comes amid a backdrop of increased scrutiny for Prince Andrew, including a reported incident where he was confronted by an individual on the King's Sandringham estate earlier this year. The efforts by these aristocratic circles signal a potential shift in how Prince Andrew is perceived and reintegrated following the serious allegations against him.
