The Brandling Villa in Newcastle has been named Britain's most dog-friendly pub following a nationwide search by Rover, the world's largest online marketplace for pet care. Expert tavern testers evaluated 110 pubs, assessing factors such as pup accessibility, atmosphere, staff communication, canine facilities, pet safety, and the overall experience for dogs.

Top Establishments Across the UK

The Brandling Villa impressed judges by placing canine guests at the forefront of the pub experience, offering fresh water, treats, a 'Jimmy Kibble' treat machine, and dog-themed decor. "We've always believed a great pub should welcome the whole family – and that absolutely includes the dog," said Charlie Cook, manager at the Brandling Villa. "To be recognised as Britain's most dog-friendly pub is a fantastic honour and a real testament to the Brandling Villa team."

Rover's canine behaviourist expert, Adem Fehmi, noted that well-managed pubs can offer positive experiences for dogs. "The best dog-friendly venues understand that a warm welcome goes beyond simply allowing dogs through the door," Fehmi stated. "The Brandling Villa has clearly thought about the experience from a dog's perspective, while adding plenty of fun touches for owners too, making it a worthy winner."

Joint second place was awarded to Church on the Hill in Glasgow and The Lion at Basford in Nottingham. Church on the Hill is recognized for its warm welcome to dogs and features a 'dog friendly' status on its website. The Lion at Basford, a previous winner, was commended for its large beer garden, ideal for dogs to play.

Other highly-rated pubs include The Penny Hedge in Whitby, Yorkshire, which operates a 'muddy paws welcome' policy; the Jolly Farmer in Worplesdon, a traditional countryside pub with ample outdoor seating; and The Foxglove in Islington, London, which emphasizes its 'craft beer, good vibes, and a dog-friendly space.'
