Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume declared that President Donald Trump has become a "lame duck" president as midterm election results indicated significant Democratic victories and a potential shift in congressional control. Hume stated on Tuesday that Democrats, poised to regain power after years in the minority, would face increased scrutiny.
Hume argued that the Democratic Party's midterm campaign strategy, largely focused on opposition to Trump and his administration's actions regarding Iran, might not sustain them indefinitely. "And Trump is going to be a lame duck," Hume said, predicting that the president's political influence would be significantly diminished for the remainder of his second term. He suggested that with only two years left in office, the focus would shift to what Democrats can accomplish.
Hume also predicted a potentially fractious Democratic coalition, with newly elected democratic socialists likely pushing the party further left. He noted the intense and enduring opposition to Trump within the Democratic Party, questioning whether they could move past this focus even with Trump in a "lame duck status."
