Residents living near North Mymms Park, an Elizabethan mansion used for filming scenes set at the Duke of Hastings' Clyvedon estate in the Netflix series Bridgerton, have lodged complaints about disruptive film shoots. The estate is currently seeking retrospective planning permission for its use as a commercial film location.
Locals have cited concerns over the safety of narrow lanes due to film vehicles, with some neighbors reporting being endangered while walking their dogs. They also complain of late-night traffic, loud music, and a "substantial volume of artificial smoke" with a "strong gas-like odour" that can be detected up to a mile away. One resident reported convoys passing their home as late as 3 a.m., and another incident involved security guards dealing with vehicles around 4:30 a.m.
North Mymms Parish Council has officially lodged a "major objection," citing road-safety issues, endangered dog walkers, and frightened residents. The council also noted disturbances from "late night crowds" and "loud music."
Despite these objections, planning consultants for North Mymms Park maintain that filming occurs only occasionally. Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is expected to make the final decision on whether to grant the retrospective planning permission.
North Mymms Park has served as a filming location for various productions, including The Crown, Wonka, and the BBC comedy-drama Ludwig, in addition to Bridgerton.
