A Sydney woman is selling her meticulously planned $22,000 wedding for $15,000 after her engagement ended, hoping another couple can salvage the event.
A 23-year-old marketing professional from Sydney has listed her entire $22,000 dream wedding for sale on Airtasker after calling off her engagement. The package, which was set to host 120 guests at Curzon Hall, north of Sydney, is being offered to another couple for $15,000.
The bride-to-be, who had been engaged for 18 months, explained that she and her partner of three years realized they were too young for such a significant commitment and had rushed into the engagement. The decision to call off the wedding occurred in July.
By the time of the cancellation, substantial deposits and booking fees totaling $22,000 had already been paid. The total cost of the wedding was estimated to be between $45,000 and $50,000. The listing aims to recoup the initial payments, with the understanding that the new couple would need to commit to paying the remaining balance to suppliers.
The package includes services from a stylist who handled flowers and table settings, catering through the venue, and a photographer and videographer. A hair and makeup artist, initially offering a voucher after the cancellation, can also be transferred if desired by the new couple.
A significant condition for taking over the wedding package is that the new couple must marry on the exact same date to retain all existing bookings. While vendors are firm on the non-refundable nature of some payments, they are willing to facilitate the transfer and potential refunds for the original bride.
The bride stated that her motivation extends beyond financial recovery; she wants to save another couple the stress of planning. She previously used Airtasker for other tasks and noticed the platform's versatility, leading to her unconventional solution.
The listing has reportedly attracted three offers and several inquiries, though some potential buyers withdrew after learning about the remaining financial obligations to suppliers. The bride's custom-made wedding dress is not included in the sale, as it was made to her specific measurements.
She also managed to cancel a honeymoon booking with her ex-fiancé and secure a refund due to an airline schedule change. Her former fiancé is aware of the plan and supportive, as are her family and friends.
Despite the engagement's dissolution, the bride remains optimistic about future relationships, emphasizing the importance of listening to one's instincts, even when faced with significant financial consequences.
