Brentford FC Reports Fan to Police for Kicking Rugby Ball into Stadium

Brentford Football Club has reported a spectator to the police after a rugby ball was kicked from a high-rise apartment onto the field during their recent match against Liverpool. The club characterized the behavior as "dangerous and potentially very harmful" in a statement.

The incident occurred during Brentford's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday. Footage of the ball being kicked from a rooftop into the Gtech Community Stadium circulated widely on social media. While no injuries were reported, the ball landed near the playing area and was subsequently confiscated by stadium staff.

The area surrounding the stadium is known for its proximity to high-rise apartment buildings. The ball is believed to have originated from the Memento Kew Bridge apartment complex, where rental costs can be significant. Many of the apartments feature private balconies with views of the stadium.

Brentford stated that the matter has been referred to the police, and the club is cooperating with authorities to identify the individual responsible. The club emphasized that appropriate action, which could include criminal prosecution, may be taken. "The matchday safety of fans, staff, players and officials is of utmost importance, and the club will support all efforts to ensure action is taken," the statement read.

This incident occurred amidst a competitive match where Brentford, after initially leading, were defeated by Liverpool. A red card issued to Brentford's Yehor Yarmolyuk near halftime was cited as a turning point in the game.

The Gtech Community Stadium, which opened in 2020, has a capacity of 17,250. The surrounding residential developments have previously drawn attention; in 2024, a singer residing in a nearby apartment shared anecdotes about individuals expressing interest in her apartment solely for the purpose of watching matches from her balcony.
