Brendan Fraser, 57, has been spotted on the set of an upcoming sequel in The Mummy franchise, his first appearance in the series in 18 years. The actor was photographed in Suffolk, England, filming a scene that featured a rocket-like high-speed car. This marks a significant moment in Fraser's career revival, often referred to as the 'Brennaissance,' which has seen him regain prominence, including an Oscar win for his performance in "The Whale."
The scene involved Fraser's character, treasure hunter Rick O'Connell, preparing to drive an experimental vehicle. A stunt double was utilized for the actual driving, with both Fraser and the double appearing in costume and with soot-like makeup. They were dressed in rugged brown leather jackets, matching gloves, and trousers.
The vehicle, described as silvery with blue and red accents, stylized lightning bolts, and 'Great Britain Speed Shop' branding, featured American and British flags on its tail fin. The filming took place at a former military base repurposed as a fictional air base, with the runway used as a track for speed trials.
This new film will see the return of Rachel Weisz, who costarred in the original "The Mummy Returns" (2001). Weisz was recently confirmed to have rejoined the franchise and was seen filming a separate scene in London. John Hannah, who played Evelyn Carnahan's brother, and Arnold Vosloo, who portrayed the mummy, are also returning. Kevin J. O'Connor, who previously played the mummy's henchman, has also been cast despite his character's demise in the original film.
While the new film is set decades after the last Mummy entry featuring Weisz, few plot details have been released. The directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for "Ready or Not" and recent "Scream" installments, are helming the project, replacing original "Mummy" director Stephen Sommers.
Fraser's career resurgence has included roles in "Pressure," "Rental Family," and his Oscar-winning performance in "The Whale." The upcoming "Mummy" sequel is slated for release on October 15, 2027.
