Bre Tiesi Voluntarily Withdraws From 'Special Forces' After Witnessing Co-Stars' Jungle Ordeal
The 'Selling Sunset' star cited the harrowing experience of Matt Barnes and David Charvet as her reason for leaving the reality competition.
Bre Tiesi, known for her role in 'Selling Sunset,' voluntarily withdrew from the reality competition series 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test' after witnessing the difficult ordeal of fellow recruits Matt Barnes and David Charvet. The incident occurred after a mission in the Malaysian jungle when Barnes and Charvet were tasked with retrieving discarded trash and became lost, encountering quicksand.
Both Barnes and Charvet required rescue by directing staff and returned to the barracks visibly shaken and injured. Tiesi, observing their condition, decided to leave the competition. She stated that her decision was influenced by seeing the extent of their suffering and her own discomfort with the lack of information and control during the immersive experience.
"Those men came back in shambles. They were hurt and not really talking to anyone," Tiesi said in an interview. "Once I realized how much David and Matt went through, I thought, ‘Yeah, I gotta go.’"
Tiesi had previously expressed unease about the mission, questioning why the entire team wasn't returning to collect their debris. The prolonged absence of Barnes and Charvet, coupled with the deteriorating weather conditions, heightened her anxiety. "I don’t like being out of control," she explained. "Special Forces is a full immersive experience. We can’t access the DS; the production team isn’t allowed to talk to you."
Following the incident, Tiesi noted that her co-star Oliver Hudson also withdrew from the show the following day, stating they had a shared experience of near-distress in the jungle.
Tiesi reflected that the experience, despite her early exit, was transformative. She found value in the personal growth and healing that occurred among the recruits, and it altered her perspective on the military.
For those considering participating in the show, Tiesi advised thorough mental preparation and therapy, emphasizing that the mental challenges are more demanding than the physical ones. She also shared that her young son, Legendary Love, now views her as a superhero after watching her on the series.
After returning to civilization, Tiesi's first priority was a long shower, followed by a birthday celebration with her partner.
