Members of the Brazilian national soccer team are facing criticism after video emerged appearing to show several players laughing during a Welcome to Country ceremony. The ceremony, performed by the Wulgurukaba Walkabouts, an Aboriginal dance and cultural performance group, was held in North Queensland on Thursday.

The event took place before Brazil's first friendly match against the Socceroos in Australia. While many players observed the traditional ceremony in silence, footage circulating on social media captured some individuals appearing to laugh during the performance.

The Brazilian team's official Instagram account had shared photos of the ceremony, describing it as a "special moment" to mark the team's arrival. However, the comment section was soon filled with reactions from social media users expressing disappointment and calling for greater respect for indigenous cultures.

"Respect is a two-way street. Don't mock someone else's culture," one user commented. Another wrote, "What if it [were] our indigenous peoples? More respect." A third commenter stated, "Sometimes it’s embarrassing to be Brazilian, honestly."

The controversy preceded the match between Australia and Brazil, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Australia took the lead with a free-kick goal from Nestory Irankunda, but Brazil equalized in stoppage time with a header from substitute Rayan.

The two teams are scheduled to play their second and final match of the series in Brisbane on Tuesday. The Daily Mail has sought comment from the Brazilian football team regarding the incident.
