Brazilians are heading to the polls on Sunday as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva seeks a fourth term in office. His main challenger is Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The election is proceeding under a tense political climate, reflecting a deeply divided nation.
If no candidate secures more than 50% of the valid votes, the election will proceed to a runoff on October 25. This outcome remains a possibility given the competitive nature of the race.
Flávio Bolsonaro is considered an ally of former President Donald Trump, adding an international dimension to the Brazilian electoral contest. The dynamics of this election are being closely observed both domestically and internationally.
