Braves' Ray Kerr Goes Viral for Fiery Post-Game Celebration
Journeyman pitcher unleashes a torrent of expletives after a crucial playoff performance.
Atlanta Braves pitcher Ray Kerr became an instant fan favorite following his team's 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the NL wild-card series. After delivering 3 1/3 scoreless innings as the game's opener in his postseason debut, Kerr celebrated his career-defining moment with uninhibited, profanity-laced enthusiasm.
"Man, starting a game and him closing it out? What the f–k, that’s coolest feeling ever," Kerr told Braves Vision. "And him coming to me after the game and congratulating me. F–king blessing."
His teammates doused him with alcohol during the interview, prompting him to describe the celebratory champagne as "F–king cold." Kerr added, "I’ve been freezing all night."
While the game also featured significant contributions from Chris Sale and Michael Harris II, Kerr's performance was pivotal. The journeyman, who had appeared in only 48 MLB games and nine this season, was tapped to start the elimination game. His effectiveness allowed him to pitch into the fourth inning on 47 pitches, reducing the need for bulk pitcher Grant Holmes.
Kerr's outing ended with the Braves holding a 3-0 lead. He limited the Phillies' top hitters, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryce Harper, to an 0-for-5 performance with one walk. "I was focused from the moment I woke up," Kerr said. "I was like we’re going to put some 0s up and get a W."
Kerr's path to this moment has been a long and winding one, including a period working at a 7-Eleven before making his MLB debut in 2022. His performance in Game 3 secures him a place in Braves playoff lore for his role in helping the team finally overcome the Phillies in a postseason series.
The Braves are now set to face the Dodgers in the NLDS, beginning Saturday night in Los Angeles. "It felt great. I don’t got much on that," Kerr said of his journey. "But it was fun. It was a journey. I’ve dreamed about stuff like this. For it to actually happen, I still haven’t even processed yet. We’re just going to get after it tomorrow. Hopefully we can win the next series, and yeah."
