Brandon Williams Joins Rotherham United Amidst Career Rebuilding Efforts

Former Manchester United player Brandon Williams has signed a three-month contract with League Two side Rotherham United, marking a new attempt to revive his career.

The 26-year-old has been training with the club since pre-season, working to get back on track after a difficult period. Rotherham United described Williams as a "full-back and forward-thinking defender with incredibly impressive pedigree."

Rotherham manager Alex Bruce expressed optimism about Williams' arrival, praising his perseverance and attitude. "He's worked really, really hard with us since pre-season," Bruce stated. "He's shown a great attitude every day, he's shown an appetite and a hunger just to play. And he's had a tough few years."

Williams made 51 appearances for Manchester United after emerging from their youth academy. However, his career has faced significant challenges in recent years. In May 2025, he received a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for dangerous driving after crashing his Audi A3 at nearly 100 mph in August 2023. He was subsequently banned from driving for three years and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

Before joining Rotherham, Williams had a brief and unsuccessful stint with Hull City, joining them in August of the previous year. He left the Tigers by mutual consent in February after making only one five-minute substitute appearance, having not played a professional game for 20 months prior.

Williams originally broke into United's first team in the 2019-20 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He also spent time on loan at Norwich City and Ipswich Town.

In May 2025, Williams had expressed a desire to be "100 percent focused" on his football and to "kick on" with a new club, mentioning an openness to playing abroad. He acknowledged his past behavior, stating in an interview that the incident had been a "proper wake-up call" and that he regretted his actions, which he described as "stupid stuff." He aims to prove people wrong and return to the football pitch to showcase his abilities.
