Investigators found syringes, prescription medications, a box of Narcan, and an unidentified white powdery substance in the San Fernando Valley home of former Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke when his body was discovered earlier this year. The LA County Medical Examiner’s death report, obtained by the California Post, details the findings made on May 11.

During the investigation, officials uncovered "vape devices, cannabis products, prescription medications, injectable peptides, syringes, a box of Narcan, blister packets of medications, vitamins and other medical evidence" in and around Clarke's room and its adjoining bathroom. On the kitchen island, investigators discovered "a plate containing [an] unknown white powdery substance and a hotel key card."

The cause of death was attributed to the combined effects of heroin and cocaine, with the contributory factor being multiple prescription medications. The manner of death was classified as an accident.

Clarke's roommate told investigators that the basketball player had a history of drug use and had previously undergone rehabilitation. Clarke was 29 years old at the time of his death.

Clarke began his NBA career in 2019 when the Grizzlies selected him in the first round. He played seven seasons with the Memphis franchise, starting 50 games. He was under a $52 million contract with the team at the time of his passing.

The Grizzlies organization released a statement mourning his loss: "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Weeks prior to his death, Clarke was arrested in Arkansas after authorities reported finding 235.6 grams of kratom in his vehicle during a traffic stop. Clarke had reportedly told officers he believed the substances were legal. The case remained pending at the time of his death.

Clarke's fiancée, Amber Lorraine, described him as "the most special person, with the biggest heart" in a social media post, expressing her grief and recalling their plans for marriage and starting a family.
