Braelon Allen's Career Day Lifts Jets Over Browns
Running back rushes for career-high 116 yards and scores game-winning touchdown.
Braelon Allen delivered a career-defining performance on Sunday, rushing for a personal best 116 yards and scoring the game-winning touchdown in the New York Jets' 17-12 victory over the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium. The milestone game comes as Allen, who missed most of last season due to injury, aims to re-establish himself as a primary ball carrier for the Jets.
Allen's touchdown in the fourth quarter, a surprising run on third-and-9 when trailing by two points, secured the win. He broke off one tackle and surged toward the end zone, capping a day that saw him carry the ball 24 times.
With starting running back Breece Hall still sidelined by injury, Allen seized the opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities. His 116 rushing yards mark the most by a Jets running back since Hall's 133-yard performance in Week 8 of the previous season. Allen had surpassed his previous career high of 59 rushing yards, set just the week before, long before his decisive touchdown.
"Honestly, I was just really hype," Allen said of his touchdown run. "During the play, once I broke past first level, I knew it was over."
Allen's impact was felt throughout the game. He drew three Browns defenders to open up a path for a touchdown on the Jets' opening drive and recorded consecutive runs of 8 and 17 yards to close out the first quarter. Despite a lost fumble and a dropped pass, Allen also showcased his physicality with an 18-yard gain on a third-and-4 in the third quarter, breaking tackles and extending the play.
Allen's potential was evident during his rookie campaign in 2024, but his 2025 season was cut short by a season-ending MCL injury just four games in. Sunday's performance marked a significant step in his recovery and return to form, drawing praise from teammates.
"The Jets, Garrett Wilson said, see this from Allen in practice, but when it happens 'on Sunday, it holds a little more weight,'" the New York Post reported. Allen's ability to gain yardage after contact and his consistent effort have been noted by the team.
