Bradley Wright-Phillips Mentors Rising Star Julian Hall

Bradley Wright-Phillips, the leading goal scorer in Red Bulls history, has been a key mentor to emerging talent Julian Hall, guiding the young player's development into a prominent force for both the club and the U.S. men's national team. Wright-Phillips, who has worked with Red Bulls II since approximately 2023, has closely observed Hall's progression.

Hall, in turn, has credited Wright-Phillips as a significant influence. "He was someone that was there every single day for me," Hall told The Post. "Any questions I had, he was there. I mean, I feel like that was why he wanted to be there, to inspire the younger guys that were coming through. He definitely inspired me and he definitely helped me get to this place right now."

That 'place' for Hall includes establishing himself in the Red Bulls' starting lineup this season, displacing former Bayern Munich player Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and scoring 10 goals. His performance earned him an MLS All-Star selection. Following a 12-game goal drought, Hall scored the decisive goal against New York City FC before the international break. He then went on to score three goals and record an assist in his debut call-up to the senior U.S. men's national team.

Wright-Phillips, a two-time MLS Golden Boot winner in 2014 and 2016, shared a crucial piece of advice that Hall attributes to his scoring success: "I think one main thing was staying in the box and between the posts," Hall explained. "Because when I was younger, I was running all over the place on the field and with the second team, and he would always yell at me to go back in the middle. That’s kind of where I’ve been living this season and it pays off. That’s why I feel like everyone needs to be coachable, and you gotta listen to your elders because they know what they’re talking about."

Wright-Phillips recalled Hall's tendency to drift wide, away from scoring opportunities. "I’m saying to him, there’s moments for that where you help the team, but there’s moments where you also have to think about Julian," the former Red Bulls player said. "And I thought that was very important for him to just stay in the width of the 18-yard box because that’s where he’s going to get paid. That’s why people are talking about him now."

While Wright-Phillips's current schedule with Apple TV and the World Cup has limited their frequent interactions, they maintain contact. He recently checked in with Tyler Adams, another Red Bulls alumnus and U.S. national team captain, to ensure Hall and rising star Adri Mehmeti were settling in during their first national team call-ups.

During his first national team experience, Hall received positive feedback from the coaching staff, who expressed pride in his performances and encouraged him to maintain his "heart" and "passion." Wright-Phillips expressed his satisfaction in witnessing Hall's growth from his early days in MLS Next Pro to his current success on larger stages.
