Bradley Fink Finds New Stride at Dundee After Dortmund Stint

Bradley Fink, who once trained alongside stars like Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund, has recently rediscovered his form with Scottish club Dundee. The forward's journey has been a mix of high potential and challenging setbacks since his early days in Germany.

Fink joined Borussia Dortmund in 2019, the same year as Giovanni Reyna. During his time at the club, he had opportunities to train with established players such as Mats Hummels and Jadon Sancho, and later with the prolific Erling Haaland and the highly-touted Jude Bellingham. Having moved to Dortmund from Luzern as a 16-year-old, Fink harbored ambitions of playing professionally for the German club in front of large crowds. His youth career at Luzern was marked by impressive goal-scoring records, including 40 goals in 21 games at the under-16 level, and he also represented Switzerland at the under-17 level.

Dortmund reportedly scouted Fink extensively before signing him for a compensation fee of £166,000. His debut season with Dortmund's second team was successful, with 12 goals and four assists in 18 games, making him the league's third-highest scorer. He also made his debut for the under-19 team in the UEFA Youth League. His former youth coach, Sebastian Geppert, described him as technically adept, possessing good control, and capable of quick passing, noting his strong work ethic.

However, breaking into Dortmund's first team proved difficult, particularly with the presence of players like Haaland. While Fink's style differed from Haaland's, relying more on technique than strength, the experience of training with top-tier talent was invaluable. After realizing the challenge of securing regular first-team minutes, Fink moved to Basel in 2022, with the expectation of more playing time in his home country. He played 25 times for Basel in the Swiss Super League during the 2022-23 season, scoring five goals. However, he struggled to command a regular starting position, leading to a loan spell at Grasshopper where he scored two goals in 31 league matches.

His final season at Basel saw him win a league medal but only score one goal in 16 league appearances. In 2025, Fink made a move to Wycombe Wanderers in League One. His time there was hampered by injuries, including tearing his quad muscle twice early in his tenure. By the time he was fit, the manager who signed him had been sacked, and Fink became a peripheral figure, making 21 appearances and scoring two goals. His fortunes began to shift at the start of the current season when Dundee's Simon Murray sustained an injury, prompting manager Steven Pressley to seek an alternative striker.

Fink accepted the opportunity to join Dundee on loan, seeing it as a chance to prove himself in the Scottish Premiership. His arrival at Dens Park was met with immediate impact, coming off the bench to contribute to a 2-0 victory against Dundee United. He has since scored goals against Hearts and Motherwell, and his link-up play and movement have been noted as significant improvements, likely influenced by his earlier experiences at Dortmund. At 23 years old, Fink appears to be on an upward trajectory again with Dundee.
