Zahara, 21, and Maddox, 24, children of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, have published newspaper advertisements as part of the legal process to remove their father's surname.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Zahara's petition to drop the actor's surname was published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four consecutive weeks, with notices running on June 16, June 23, June 30, and July 7. A court hearing is scheduled for September 28 for a judge to rule on the motion, provided no objections are filed.
Maddox's petition ran in the same publication, the Los Angeles Daily Journal, on June 10, June 17, June 24, and July 1. Publicly publishing a petition in a newspaper is a mandatory step for legal name changes in California.
Zahara had previously requested her legal name be changed to Zahara Jolie, foregoing Jolie-Pitt. She also did not use her father's last name at her college graduation in May, where she was announced as Zahara Marley Jolie. Maddox filed a similar request in May to change his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie, citing personal reasons. He had also informally omitted his father's surname in the credits for his work on his mother's recent movie, "Couture."
