Actor Brad Pitt publicly acknowledged that he has resumed drinking alcohol after maintaining sobriety for seven years. This admission comes after he was observed consuming beverages at a high-profile event in July.
A source reported that Pitt was seen drinking at the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, which took place at Madison Square Garden on July 3. Guests at the event expressed surprise at seeing Pitt, who has been open about his sobriety journey. The wedding also attracted other notable figures such as Adam Sandler, Paul McCartney, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Tom Cruise.
Pitt attended the wedding with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon. He shared in a recent interview published in Esquire that he decided to drink again, stating, "I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon." He clarified that his drinking is now done "in a more restrained manner" and that he has realized "the hard way" that consuming larger quantities is not suitable for him. Pitt explained that he "can have a few" glasses of wine but "can't have a lot," emphasizing the need to remain professional.
He first disclosed his sobriety and participation in a 12-step program in a 2019 interview with The New York Times, stating he had "removed my drinking privilege." Pitt's decision to quit drinking reportedly stemmed from an alleged drunken plane incident in 2016, which has been cited as a factor in the dissolution of his marriage to Angelina Jolie.
Jolie had alleged in court documents that her then-husband had physically harmed her and one of their six children. The FBI investigated the claims but did not bring charges against Pitt. The couple was declared legally single in 2019 and finalized their divorce in 2024.
Pitt also spoke about a difficult period in his life where he experienced suicidal thoughts, describing the pain as "oppressive" and saying he could "feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head" as a potential relief. He attributed these feelings to navigating "family stuff," without elaborating further. He noted that despite these thoughts, his survival instincts kicked in.
Pitt has several upcoming film projects, including "Heart of the Beast," an untitled project by Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher, and "The Riders."
