A 13-foot alligator attacked and killed Brittany Clark, 31, while she was swimming in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest, according to a medical examiner's report. The alligator clamped onto Clark's arm and performed a "death roll," a technique used to subdue prey, before her boyfriend, Chance Allison, intervened.
Allison reportedly wrestled Clark from the alligator's jaws, but the reptile dragged them both underwater. Clark was briefly freed before the alligator attacked her other arm. It released her only after Allison managed to drag them both ashore. He then performed CPR on Clark while a 911 call was made.
Audio from the 911 call described Clark's injuries as "horrible," with one arm barely attached and the other completely severed. Clark died on the way to the hospital from "multiple blunt force injuries of the upper extremities."
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission stated that Clark did not appear to have provoked the alligator and was swimming in about three feet of water at the time of the attack. The agency has captured and killed two alligators, measuring 13 feet and 12.5 feet, as part of their investigation.
According to the FWC, serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida. Between 1948 and 2025, the FWC recorded 500 unprovoked bites, with 32 resulting in fatalities.
