Boyband Boy Throb Secures US Visa for Final Member After Year-Long Campaign
The group's journey from social media virality to a potential record deal culminates with the arrival of Darshan Magdum.
The pop music group Boy Throb has successfully secured a U.S. visa for its final member, Darshan Magdum, after a year-long effort that began with a viral social media campaign. Magdum, 22, who was based in India, can now join the other members—Evan Papier, 24, Zach Sobania, 24, and Anthony Key, 33—in the United States.
The group first announced their presence on the music scene in October of the previous year, with their initial video introducing Papier, Sobania, and Key, and featuring Magdum speaking via a laptop screen. They explained their predicament: "I'm Darshan Magdum and I'm stuck in India," he stated, as the other members expressed their desire to be a complete unit. The band claimed an immigration lawyer had suggested that gaining a significant online following could aid Magdum's visa application, prompting a plea for followers.
This appeal resonated widely, and the video quickly gained traction online. Within a month, Boy Throb had amassed over one million followers on TikTok and 500,000 on Instagram. Despite some questioning if their content was satirical, the band clarified in November 2025 that they were serious artists aiming for legitimacy and were working on original music. "We want to make this clear: We are not a joke. We are Boy Throb," they asserted.
The members, who met online and bonded over their shared passion for music, have roots across the U.S., with Papier hailing from Washington, Sobania from Minnesota, and Key from Indiana. Both Key and Papier had previously attempted to pass auditions for American Idol.
Following their online success, Boy Throb released their debut single, "Finger," in December 2025. Their visibility grew throughout early 2026, with appearances at the Grammy Awards—where they notably brought a cardboard cutout of Magdum—guest spots on the Zach Sang Show, and a performance of the National Anthem at a Los Angeles Kings game. The group also released five additional singles and held their first official concert in May.
In June 2026, Boy Throb signed with Kesha Records, the independent label founded by the artist Kesha. The following month, they embarked on a short tour across the U.S. The culmination of their year-long campaign arrived on August 3, 2026, when they announced the approval of Magdum's visa. A video shared by the band showed Magdum FaceTiming his bandmates to deliver the news, leading to an emotional celebration.
The group performed together for the first time recently at the American Dream mall in New Jersey, an event described as highly emotional for both the band and their fanbase.
