A three-year-old boy has undergone five surgeries following a crocodile attack while visiting a zoo with his family. His parents stated that there is "uncertainty" regarding movement and feeling in his arms, wrists, and hands, and that his rehabilitation journey will be lengthy.

"His rehabilitation journey is uncertain but we do know that it won't be a short process," the family said in a statement. They revealed that their son would require at least two more surgeries.

The incident occurred when the boy was "in the enclosure" at the zoo, according to Cambridgeshire Police. Three members of the family entered the enclosure at the time of the attack, stated Chris Newman, director of the National Centre for Reptile Welfare. The zoo, which houses over 100 animals including lions, tigers, and meerkats, has had crocodilians since 2006, with species such as broad snouted caiman, Nile crocodiles, and American alligators.

The family expressed profound gratitude for the public's support during this "horrible time," noting they have been living at the hospital for two weeks. They also extended thanks to the zoo staff who rescued their son from the enclosure. "We are extremely grateful for everyone's generosity. We could never thank you enough for the support you have given our family in this horrible time," they added.
