Boy Dies, Four Family Members Critically Injured in Bronx Apartment Fire
A fire that erupted in an 11th-floor apartment sent five people, including four children, to the hospital in critical condition, resulting in the death of one boy.
A devastating fire in a Bronx apartment early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one young boy and left four other family members in critical condition. The blaze broke out just after 12:50 a.m. on the 11th floor of the Patterson Houses complex at 320 Morris Avenue.
Approximately 130 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). They rescued two adults and three boys, believed to be members of the same family. One boy was transported to Jacobi Hospital and died shortly after arrival. Another boy remains in critical condition at the same hospital.
A third boy was taken to Harlem Hospital, also in critical condition. The two adults, a man and a 33-year-old woman, were transported to Lincoln Hospital, where they are listed in critical condition.
The fire was brought under control by 2:05 a.m. Investigators found a lithium-ion battery at the scene, but it remains unclear if it was the cause of the fire.
Details regarding the family's relationship were not immediately confirmed by the FDNY.
