Boy, 6, Dies After Being Struck by Tipper Van Outside His Home
A six-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a Ford Transit tipper van just moments after asking to go for a bike ride outside his home in North Wales.
A six-year-old boy, identified as Harrison Glynne Jones, died on Thursday afternoon after being struck by a white Ford Transit tipper van in Llanfairfechan, Conwy county, North Wales. The incident occurred just steps from his front door on Mill Road shortly after 5 p.m.
His family reported that Harrison had asked his parents if he could go for a bike ride after dinner. Tragically, he is said to have fallen into the road as he mounted his bicycle. Harrison's father was reportedly only meters behind him when the collision occurred. Emergency services declared Harrison dead at the scene.
North Wales Police have arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of driving offenses. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the area around Pen y Bryn Road and Mill Road around 5 p.m. on Thursday to come forward, emphasizing that even seemingly insignificant information could be helpful.
Harrison's parents, Daryl and Kayleigh Bolton, and his older sisters, Eira, 16, and Sienna, 9, are in complete shock following the tragedy. A family member, Kate Jones, described Harrison as 'a cheeky, beautiful little boy who made everyone smile' and 'the little boy with the big heart.'
"He's basically come out of his front door, fallen into the road, and then the tipper truck hit him," Mrs. Jones told the Daily Mail. "It all happened so quickly." She added that Harrison was a typical boy, a "cheeky chappy with a very big character," who loved his family and adored his sisters. He was also described as being a bike enthusiast and enjoyed listening to music, with his favorite song being Michael Jackson's "Beat It."
The family had recently returned from their first trip abroad to Turkey, where Harrison's father had saved someone from drowning in a swimming pool. Harrison had proudly told others, "my dad's a hero," and his family is now reminding him that he too was a hero.
Flowers and soft toys have been left at the scene as tributes. The Llanfair Arms pub posted on Facebook, stating that the village was "heartbroken by the devastating loss of a very special little boy."
A GoFundMe page has been established to help with funeral and memorial costs and to support the family. As of Saturday morning, over £15,000 had been raised. Detective Inspector Tim Evans of the North Wales Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed condolences to the family and urged anyone with information to contact North Wales Police via their live webchat, by calling 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 26000807122.
