A 12-year-old boy has died after falling through the roof of a derelict barn while playing with friends. Jaxon Robert Hubery sustained serious injuries in the incident, which occurred shortly before 2:45 p.m. last Friday in Woodhouses, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
He was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he passed away on Tuesday. Durham Police have stated they are collaborating with the Health and Safety Executive to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
Jaxon's mother, Kirsty Anne Hubery, described her grief on Facebook, saying the family had "the biggest part of us ripped away too soon." She clarified that Jaxon fell through the roof of the barn, contradicting earlier reports. Hubery also stated her intention to "fight for justice" for her son, alleging that landowners had failed to address the barn's unsafe condition for years and had not prevented children from accessing the property.
Jaxon's father, Jonny Hubery, shared that the couple had been forced to cancel their wedding due to their son's injuries. Other family members also posted tributes on social media, remembering Jaxon as a "little warrior."
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary confirmed the incident, naming the boy as Jaxon Robert Hubery. The family has thanked those who offered support and urged parents to keep children away from the area. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
