A boutique owner in Halifax, West Yorkshire, confronted a woman suspected of shoplifting on Wednesday morning, discovering that the suspect had allegedly stolen items from at least three other nearby businesses before being apprehended. Raja Hussain, owner of the clothing shop Pretty N Pinky, captured the incident on video.

Hussain reported that the woman entered his store around 9:20 a.m. carrying a black handbag with a New Look price tag still attached. According to Hussain, the suspect began handling clothing, making comments about sizes and quality before attempting to conceal items, including a £25 green two-piece gym set, in her bag. She then left the store.

Hussain pursued the woman, who he said was walking away from his shop. While on the phone with emergency services, he confronted her approximately 200 yards away. During the confrontation, the woman reportedly handed over the black handbag. Upon inspection, Hussain found the green gym set from his store, along with six pieces of jewelry from River Island and greeting cards and pens from another shop, believed to have been stolen within a 20-minute timeframe that morning.

The confrontation was captured on video, where the woman can be heard calling the filming illegal and Hussain questioning her actions. She can be heard apologizing before walking away.

Hussain stated that the recovered items, including the clothing and other goods, were returned to their respective stores with the assistance of a responding police officer. Hussain expressed concern about the impact of shoplifting on local businesses, noting that increased stock loss can lead to higher prices for consumers. He also mentioned that shoplifting is a recurring issue in the Halifax town center, sometimes involving individuals struggling with addiction.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 44-year-old woman was arrested and subsequently bailed pending further inquiries.
