A boutique owner in Halifax, West Yorkshire, confronted a woman suspected of shoplifting on Wednesday morning, recovering items that had allegedly been stolen from at least three other local businesses within a 20-minute span. Raja Hussain, the owner of Pretty N Pinky, captured the incident on video after spotting the woman attempting to conceal a £25 gym set in her handbag.

Hussain observed the suspect, described as smartly dressed, browsing his store shortly after opening. He noted her erratic behavior with merchandise and her attempts to hide items. The woman took a green gym set but replaced it with a pink one before leaving the store with the green set in her black handbag. Hussain pursued her and, after contacting emergency services, confronted her approximately 200 yards away. He recorded the interaction for his and her protection.

Upon opening the handbag, Hussain discovered the stolen gym set from his shop, along with six pieces of jewelry from River Island, and greeting cards and pens from another store. He stated that the recovered items were returned to their respective businesses by him and an attending police officer.

A 44-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently released on bail pending further inquiries, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson. Hussain expressed frustration with the prevalence of shoplifting in Halifax town center, noting its impact on businesses and honest customers through increased prices.

He also highlighted the challenges of monitoring a multi-story shop and the fear that shoplifting incidents can instill in staff, particularly when drug users are present in the area. Hussain, who also owns three other businesses in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, opened Pretty N Pinky in Halifax in May.
