Longtime Boston College men's basketball radio broadcasters Kevin Collins and Josh Maurer were reportedly dismissed this summer at the behest of new head coach Luke Murray, who is accused of wanting to sever all connections to the program's past. Collins and Maurer, who had called games together for nine years, learned in late July that their contracts would not be renewed for the upcoming 2026-27 season, leaving them little time to find new positions.

Collins told Awful Announcing that the reasoning provided was that Murray desired a "fresh coat of paint on the entire program" and wanted "no remnants of the past around the program." Collins added that Murray allegedly "didn’t feel comfortable being around a link to the past." He expressed confusion, stating that he and Maurer had not even had the opportunity to meet Murray.

Boston College athletic director Blake James issued a statement to The Field of 68, which pushed back on the accusation without explicitly absolving Murray. "The decision to not renew the contracts of our men’s basketball radio announcers was made by Boston College Athletics administrators in consultation with our MMR partner," the statement read. "We wish both Kevin and Josh the best going forward."

Murray, who has no prior head coaching experience, was hired in March. He previously served as an assistant coach under UConn's Dan Hurley for five years, replacing Earl Grant, who compiled a 72-92 record over five seasons at Boston College.

According to Collins, both he and Maurer had attempted to arrange introductory meetings or calls with Murray throughout the offseason but were unsuccessful. They were reportedly told that Murray was either recruiting or that the team was hosting official visits. The deputy athletic director relayed that Murray did not want individuals in the travel party who might have been associated with a "losing mentality" under the previous coaching staff, though Collins and Maurer claim they did not have a close relationship with Grant's staff.

Collins indicated that he raised the issue with Deputy Athletic Director Craig Anderson, who reportedly pushed back against Murray's position internally before ultimately being overruled. Collins and Maurer had previously been assured that their positions were secure.

Boston College has not yet announced replacements for the radio broadcast positions.
