Boston Bruins Mourn Loss of Staffer Alex Gimenez, Two Months After Hiring

The Boston Bruins have announced the death of their director of hockey operations, Alex Gimenez, who joined the team in July. Gimenez's passing occurred just two months after he began his role with the NHL organization.

The cause of death has not been confirmed, and Gimenez's age was not immediately released. He had previously spent a decade working for the Boston Red Sox.

Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney expressed the team's deep sadness in a statement. "Alex joined our team in July as Director of Hockey Operations, Collective Bargaining Agreement," Sweeney said. "Although Alex’s time with the Bruins was far too brief, his intelligence, thoughtfulness and character were evident from the moment he joined us. Alex earned the respect of all who knew and worked with him throughout his career and, most importantly, he was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Alex’s family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

The Boston Red Sox also shared their grief, calling Gimenez an "integral member of our baseball operations for over a decade" and "forever a part of our Red Sox family."

Before his tenure with the Bruins, Gimenez had roles including manager of major league operations for the Red Sox and also worked for the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).

In a LinkedIn post from July, Gimenez described his new role with the Bruins as his "dream job," expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to work for his favorite NHL team during an exciting period for the organization.
