Boris Johnson Criticizes Starmer and Burnham on Immigration Policy

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sharply criticized Labour leader Keir Starmer and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, labeling them as "wet and hopeless" for their stance on illegal immigration. Johnson argued that by abandoning the Rwanda policy, Starmer "threw away Britain's defence against illegal immigrants."

In his commentary, Johnson asserted that the Labour party is fundamentally incapable of addressing the issue of illegal immigration, suggesting that "deep in their Lefty hearts they are on the side of illegal immigrants."

Johnson's remarks come as the UK grapples with sustained levels of irregular migration. The Rwanda policy, intended to deter Channel crossings by sending asylum seekers to Rwanda for processing and resettlement, faced significant legal and political challenges, ultimately leading to its shelving by the Labour party. Johnson, a proponent of the policy, views its abandonment as a strategic failure.

He contends that the policy, despite its controversies, represented a crucial deterrent and that without it, the UK is left vulnerable to further illegal crossings. Johnson suggested that Starmer's leadership is characterized by indecisiveness, predicting that the Labour government will "limp on, without a mandate, for three more years."
