Border Patrol Arrests Romanian Nationals Linked to Organized Crime in California
Three individuals, including one with extensive 'evil clown' tattoos, were apprehended near Oceanside.
U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended three Romanian nationals who had illegally entered the United States and are allegedly connected to an organized crime group. The arrests occurred on Interstate 5 near Oceanside, California, on October 9.
One of the individuals, who was heavily tattooed, featured a prominent chest tattoo of a clown head with a menacing appearance, reminiscent of the Joker character, holding two masks. Additional tattoos on his torso and arms included female heads, a figure resembling a detective, an hourglass, the words 'thug life,' a skull, and imagery of Big Ben.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stated that the three men entered the U.S. illegally from Canada between ports of entry at some point between 2024 and 2025. Initially, CBP indicated one man was connected to a crime group. However, a subsequent Facebook post by the San Diego Sector confirmed all three men were linked to the organization.
Authorities reported that one of the alleged criminals had an active warrant in Virginia for illicit credit card use. The group is also reportedly connected to the theft of a Rolex watch from a Los Angeles YMCA locker room in August.
The three men have been transferred to ICE custody for removal proceedings. Their names have not been released.
"Border Patrol agents remain vigilant in identifying and stopping individuals who may pose a threat to our communities," stated Justin De La Torre, chief patrol agent of the San Diego Sector. "This arrest demonstrates the value of strong border security, intelligence-driven enforcement, and close coordination among our law enforcement partners. Our agents’ diligence helps prevent individuals with criminal ties from operating in our communities."
In a separate incident in October, the San Diego Sector arrested a Mexican national with a prior murder conviction in Guanajuato, who had served nearly 14 years in prison. This individual also faces removal proceedings.
