Bondi Restaurant Closes Abruptly After Three Years

Iberica, a Spanish tapas restaurant and wine bar located near Bondi Beach, has unexpectedly closed its doors after three years of operation. The owners announced the closure on social media, expressing sadness at not achieving their desired outcome.

"It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce Iberica has closed its doors. This is not the ending we had hoped for, and saying goodbye to a place that has meant so much to us is incredibly sad," the team stated in their announcement. The restaurant, which opened in September 2023, aimed to foster community through shared food and Spanish hospitality.

The owners extended gratitude to their "incredible team, past and present," as well as customers, friends, and the wider community for their support. They reflected on being "incredibly proud of what we created and of all the memories made within these walls."

The Daily Telegraph reported that the restaurant, co-owned by Joaquin Saez and Emily Abay, had quietly entered liquidation earlier this year. The abrupt closure has led to expressions of heartbreak and shared fond memories from patrons.

Customers responded to the news with dismay. "No this is heartbreaking. Thank you for all the incredible memories," one patron commented. Another shared, "I'm so sorry to hear this guys, I love this space and everything you've created. Much love." Others lamented the loss of what they described as a special venue, with one noting, "What a spot, what a vibe, what a venue! A sad day! Another one bites the dust."
