Bondi Attack Case Uncertain After Defense Barrister Injured

The legal proceedings for Naveed Akram, the accused shooter in the Bondi terror attack, face uncertainty following a severe beach accident involving his defense barrister. Richard Wilson SC, who is publicly funded to represent Akram, suffered a neck injury in a bodysurfing incident and is expected to be unable to return to work until at least February.

This development raises questions about the continuity of Akram's defense. The extended absence of Wilson, who has been representing Akram since his arrest, could lead to significant delays in the high-profile case.

Akram is charged with multiple offenses, including 15 counts of murder, 43 of attempted murder, 10 of shooting with intent to murder, and seven of discharging a firearm with intent. He has been in custody since his arrest following the attack on December 14 last year, which claimed the lives of 15 people celebrating Hanukkah at Bondi Beach. At a hearing in March, Wilson acknowledged that Akram had been charged over what is considered Australia's deadliest terrorist attack.
