A bodysurfer died Wednesday after being pulled from the ocean at Laguna Beach's South Crescent Bay beach. Lifeguards retrieved the unconscious man from the water around 4:30 p.m. after he was observed struggling.

Marine Safety and Fire Department officials administered CPR at the scene. The individual, who had been bodysurfing prior to the incident, was taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Orange County coroner's office confirmed it was responding to a drowning incident in Laguna Beach.

Red flags were posted along Crescent Bay on Wednesday, signaling dangerous conditions and advising beachgoers to enter the water only if they possessed significant ocean experience. This incident follows a tragic event in June when a 5-year-old girl died after being swept into the ocean with her mother and brother during hazardous surf conditions at nearby Treasure Island Beach.
