Bodycam footage released by Inside the Blue TV depicts a February 2025 encounter between University of Central Florida student Jarrett Vick, 27, and the Orange County Sheriff's Office. The altercation, which occurred in an on-campus building, has gained renewed attention after the footage was shared online. Officers were initially responding to reports of a stolen vehicle.

Vick was arrested and subsequently charged with battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. However, court records indicate Vick pleaded not guilty and the case was later dismissed. The footage shows Vick requesting officers use "she" pronouns and questioning their actions regarding other individuals on campus. An officer warned Vick to lower her voice, threatening to call for backup and referring to the situation as a student having a "breakdown."

The situation intensified when Vick demanded the officer use the correct pronouns, prompting the officer to instruct Vick to get on the ground and deploying pepper spray. Vick attempted to flee, with the bodycam footage capturing expletives and demands to be left alone. Another individual, identified as a university employee, intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but tensions persisted. Vick explicitly stated that being misgendered was causing distress.

Officers proceeded to physically apprehend Vick, who alleged being hurt during the arrest. The student was then tased and handcuffed on the ground before being escorted out of the building. As Vick was placed in a patrol car, the student stated, "I hate you. You escalated this. You didn't have to pull out the pepper spray. You didn't have to misgender me."

It remains unclear if Vick is still enrolled at the University of Central Florida. Representatives for the university and the sheriff's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
