The search for Marly Kinney, 19, who disappeared from a boat trip on Grayson Lake in Kentucky on Wednesday, concluded Sunday with the recovery of her body. Officials with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources located Kinney's body near the lake at approximately 3:45 p.m., according to reports.
Kinney was last seen around 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Grayson Lake, located about 180 miles east of Louisville. Her disappearance was reported when the boat's captain, Cameron Conley, 23, informed Grayson Lake Marina staff that he could not account for a female passenger. A citation filed in Carter District Court detailed Conley's statement.
Authorities noted the smell of alcohol on Conley when he spoke with state police. According to the citation, Conley admitted to drinking and agreed to a preliminary breath test. His blood alcohol level was reportedly measured at .137, which is more than double the legal limit of .08 in Kentucky. Approximately 20 minutes later, a subsequent test allegedly showed his blood alcohol level at .135. Conley was subsequently charged with operating a boat while intoxicated or under the influence. He was arrested and taken to the Carter County Detention Center but has since been released. His arraignment is scheduled for July 22, according to Kentucky court records.
The cause of Kinney's death is pending review by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. Information from Kinney's public Instagram account indicated she followed an individual with the same name as Cameron Conley.
One witness, Leah Ross, reported seeing Kinney and her group near a local landmark known as 'Sex Rock' on the lake. Ross, who was boating with her family, shared a photo appearing to show Kinney and her friends jumping from the rock formations. She stated her group had time-stamped videos showing Kinney's group near the rocks around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, and they remained in the area for at least 10 to 20 minutes afterward.
Kentucky State Police had stated on Saturday that weather conditions were a factor in the search efforts. The investigation into Kinney's death is ongoing. Authorities are requesting anyone with information to contact Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement.
