The body of Bryn Waite, a 26-year-old former college soccer player, was found floating in the water at La Jolla Shores Beach in San Diego on Wednesday morning. A beachgoer discovered Waite's remains, and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of her death, which remains unknown.
Waite, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, had recently relocated to San Diego in anticipation of her upcoming marriage. She had become engaged just a month prior to her death, sharing photos of the proposal on her Instagram profile on June 15. The posts featured her engagement ring and smiling selfies with her fiancé.
Friends of Waite have expressed devastation and are seeking answers regarding her sudden passing. One friend, who spoke anonymously to The California Post, described Waite as "incredibly sweet, genuinely kind and had such a beautiful spirit." Another friend noted Waite’s kindness and love for animals and the beach.
Waite played two seasons of Division 2 women's soccer at Central Washington University in 2018 and 2019. Her online profile indicates she participated in at least 15 games, scoring two goals. Three days before her death, Waite posted a picture on Instagram of herself driving at night with the caption, "It only gets better."
