Body of Elderly Kansas Woman Found in Suitcase Outside Fire Station

The body of Loretta M. Moody, a 68-year-old Kansas woman who required oxygen, was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase at a Wichita fire station parking lot. Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Two unidentified individuals brought Moody's body to Wichita Fire Station 22 on Wednesday evening, according to authorities. The discovery was made shortly after 6 p.m. Officials have not released the identities of these individuals, nor have they detailed how they came into possession of Moody's body or the circumstances leading to it being placed in a suitcase.

Moody's family reported her missing earlier that day, shortly after 1:30 a.m., to the Wichita Police Department. Family members stated that Moody, who had difficulty walking and relied on oxygen, was not using her walker or taking her daily medications when she disappeared. She was described as petite, measuring approximately 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighing less than 70 pounds.

The Wichita Police Department has stated that there is no apparent threat to the public. Spokesperson Andrew Ford described the two individuals who brought Moody's body to the station as "people we are talking to," clarifying they are not yet considered suspects or persons of interest.

Investigators are continuing to interview individuals and review evidence to establish a complete timeline of events. Moody was last seen in the 2400 block of South Mosley, an area near a property she reportedly owned with a man named Robert Henderson. Records indicate this property was sold at a tax sale last year following eviction proceedings initiated in March. The current whereabouts of Moody since these proceedings began are unclear.

Family members have expressed their grief on social media. Moody's granddaughter, Angelyna Moody-Fletcher, wrote on Facebook about the difficulty of making sense of the loss and cherishing their conversations. Moody's sister also posted a tribute, expressing heartbreak and a desire for justice.
