Body Found on Eastbourne Beach Days After Coastguard Search

The body of a woman, reportedly wearing a wetsuit, was discovered washed up on a beach in Eastbourne on Saturday morning, a day after coastguard services conducted a search of the area.

Emergency services were first alerted on Friday afternoon to scour the waters off Eastbourne following the discovery of unattended items. The search on Friday involved the RNLI's inshore lifeboat, local Coastguard Rescue Teams, the coastguard helicopter 'Rescue 363', and Sussex Police.

The body was found near the pier around 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 3rd. An eyewitness present at the scene stated that the individual appeared to be wearing a wetsuit.

Sussex Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the woman's next of kin have been informed. A report is being prepared for HM Coroner.

An RNLI spokesperson confirmed that the inshore lifeboat was deployed on Friday afternoon at the request of Solent Coastguard to assist in a multi-agency search. The lifeboat crew conducted a shoreline search alongside other responding units.
