Body Discovered in Search for Missing Teen
Leicestershire Police investigating 'unexplained' death after 18-year-old fails to return home.
A body has been found during the search for an 18-year-old who disappeared after a night out. James Corlett was last seen on October 29, having traveled from his home in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, to Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire. He had not been in contact with his family or friends since that evening.
Leicestershire Police discovered Corlett's body in Ashby on October 31, following reports that he had remained in the area. The force has initiated an investigation into the death, which is currently being treated as "unexplained." Corlett's family has been informed and is receiving support from officers.
Samantha Niblett, the Labour MP for South Derbyshire, expressed her sadness on Facebook, stating, "I am so very sad to read an update from James' dad that James is no longer with us." She added, "Thinking of James' dad and mum, their family, and friends at this sad time of unimaginable pain and loss." Niblett urged for kindness and consideration in online comments, requesting "no speculation," and thanked those who had participated in the search for James.
Leicestershire Police confirmed in a statement that the body of a missing man, last seen in Ashby-de-La Zouch, had been found. The inquiry initially began with Derbyshire Police as a missing person case. When information indicated that Corlett had stayed in the Ashby area, the case was transferred to Leicestershire Police. The statement concluded, "The death is currently being treated as unexplained and further enquiries continue to be carried out."
