Bodum Recalls 5.9 Million Coffee Makers Over Burn Risk

Bodum USA has recalled nearly 6 million French press coffee makers, citing a risk of burn injuries from glass carafes that can break during use. The recall, announced on October 29, affects 5.9 million units, including 8-cup and 12-cup models.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the glass carafe can unexpectedly break if it is damaged or cracked, a scenario that can be exacerbated by using a metal spoon to stir coffee. The Bodum name is typically found on the frame, inner lid, or engraved on the glass carafes.

Bodum USA has received 70 reports of carafes breaking during use, with 48 of those incidents resulting in burn injuries. The company stated that while the rate of reported incidents is low, the recall aims to promote safer usage of their French press coffee makers.

The affected coffee makers were sold at major retailers such as Target and Walmart, as well as in other coffee and home goods stores nationwide. They were also available for purchase online through platforms like Amazon.com, Target.com, and Walmart.com.

These products were sold between 1974 and October 2026 for prices ranging from approximately $15 to $65.

The CPSC advises consumers to cease using metal spoons or utensils to stir coffee in the glass carafe. Bodum is offering a plastic stirring spoon and a warning label as part of the remedy for affected customers.
